How to deal with negative comments on your LinkedIn Company Page

Great webinar recently all about LinkedIn Company Pages with the guys at Social Sales Link

An attendee asked: how do you deal with negative comments on your LinkedIn Page?

CAN YOU IGNORE NEGATIVE LINKEDIN COMMENTS?

Bill said: If the comment is not about your company or content that you have directly created, then I would ignore it. Some people are on the internet just looking for a fight.

If it’s a comment around something you’ve done. Some content you have created, something you have expressed. I would say: “I appreciate your point of view on that.”

Don’t get into a tit for tat argument. Take it offline.

Communication via text like this is very two dimensional. They cannot hear your voice or see your face so it’s easy to put more into something than was really said.

So a lot of room there for misunderstanding and the more you go back and forth, the greater that gap gets. Better to take it offline to private message

CAN YOU DELETE NEGATIVE LINKEDIN COMMENTS?

Remember you can delete comments. The other person will still see it but no one else will.

Brynne said: I will only delete comments if they are offensive. I do think it helps your reputation when people see that you can handle negative comments professionally.

So long as they are not offensive, I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and opinions. I think it is really important that we respect each other in having different opinions. We may not agree with each other’s opinions but let’s be kind about it

If it’s on your Page, you are the guardian of the Page and you need to control what’s right and wrong. Also, on a Company Page, it’s an entity not a human being. They don’t know who to get mad at. They can get really mad at a brand but no one is personally taking that attack.

Sometimes you can tag yourself or another admin and say please take this. Then that human can come in and have the conversation with the rule being – be kind. If you’re not kind, you don’t get to hang out here.

LINKEDIN PAGES NOT COMPANY PAGES

BTW, LinkedIn have now started to call these just LinkedIn Pages not LinkedIn Company Pages – cue lots of confusion about the difference between a Page for a company and a profile for a human.
